Kaiserburg Castle

The Kaiserburg is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the 454 m above sea level "Ulrichsberg" (Arrach) on the southern side of the Danube, 1000 meters northwest of the church of the municipality of Oberhausen in the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen in Bavaria.

The castle was probably built in 1197 as an imperial castle and mentioned in 1280. The owners of the castle were the Counts of Graisbach-Lechsgemünd. The castle formed the easternmost point of the Graisbach possessions south of the Danube. The castle guard of the Kaiserburg was transferred by the Graisbachers to their vassals, the Knights of Straß. In 1270, the County of Neuburg was seized by the Wittelsbachers and the castles destroyed. In 1386, the castle was finally destroyed. Only remnants of the former castle complex remain.

Emperor Henry, the Saint, is said to have stayed here once. Therefore, the castle was called "Kaiserburg" by the inhabitants.
