The history of Kloster Vogelsburg began in 1282 with its foundation. It was originally inhabited by Carmelite monks who settled here under the patronage of Saint George. The monastic community existed for several centuries until it was dissolved in 1802 as part of the secularization. In the 16th century, the monastery suffered destruction, leading the monks to flee to Würzburg. It was not until 1957 that ecclesiastical life returned to the historic walls.
