Lubowitz Castle, also known as Pałac Eichendorffów, is a historic castle ruin in the Polish village of Łubowice. It is primarily known as the birthplace of the famous poet Joseph von Eichendorff and bears witness to a rich past in the Silesian region.

History+

The origins of Lubowitz Castle date back a long time, but it gained its greatest significance as the ancestral seat of the noble Eichendorff family. Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff, who would later become one of the most important German Romantics, was born here on March 10, 1788. His brother Wilhelm von Eichendorff, a lawyer and poet, and his sister Luise von Eichendorff also saw the light of day here. After 1945, the castle was severely damaged by fire and subsequent vandalism, falling into ruin. Today, the Upper Silesian Eichendorff Cultural and Meeting Center in Lubowitz advocates for the reconstruction of the historic edifice.
