Aystetten Castle

Aystetten Castle was first documented in 1428 as a fief of the Bishop of Augsburg to the Langenmantel von Radau family. The castle changed hands multiple times, including to the Augsburg patrician families Eggenberger and Herwarth. In 1545, it passed to the Heilig Kreuz Monastery and in 1582 to Anton Fugger. After its sale in 1615, the castle was almost completely destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. Leonhard Carl Sulzer acquired it in 1693 and rebuilt it, furnishing it with stucco ceilings. After a brief ownership by the Langenmantel family, it passed to Christian von Münch in 1729, who expanded the castle, built farm buildings, and laid out gardens.
