Gröningen Castle

The construction of Gröningen Castle took place between 1611 and 1627 under the patronage of Hans Philipp von Crailsheim and his wife Margarethe von Berlichingen, after the lordship of Gröningen had passed into their possession. For extended periods, however, the castle remained uninhabited. It was not until the end of the 18th century, when it came into the possession of the von Seckendorff family through inheritance, that a court with staff was established in Gröningen. In 1865, Leonhard Keller, a merchant and innkeeper from Engelhardshausen, acquired the property and opened a general store and inn there in 1866.
