Herrnfehlburg Castle

In a papal confirmation of the possessions of Oberaltaich Monastery from 1184, a farm in Velberg is already mentioned. In the 12th century, Herrnfehlburg was called Velberge, Velperg, Velberch. The name is derived from Vele, a forest name corresponding to its location on the wooded Gallnerberg. Herrnfehlburg was already a noble seat at that time, which is why the name "Herrn"fehlburg (Lord's Fehlburg) was derived. This noble seat was owned by the Counts of Bogen.

In the late 12th century, ownership passed to the Lords of Velberger. Sigeloh von Velberg is mentioned around 1180, then a Rudolf von Velberg in 1237, and a Velberger named Albert. The latter was the parish priest of Rattenberg. In 1312, he gave the farm in Blumern, on the eastern slope of the Gallnerberg, which he had inherited from his father, to Oberaltaich Monastery as a soul-gift.

An Eberhard der Velberger von Herrnfehlburg appears in 1368 with Lord Albrecht dem Ursenpeck von Irschenbach as a guarantor for Peter den Ursenpeck von Prünstfehlburg. In 1408, a Matheus der Velberger was captured in a feud, in which a Friedrich Ramsperger was also involved. In 1437, Berthold der Velberger is mentioned as a caretaker in Sünching. At that time, Herrnfehlburg came into the possession of the Ursenpecken.
