Hohenentringen Castle

The origins of the noble family of Entringen date back to 1075, when an Adalbertus de Antringen was mentioned in a document. The Lords of Entringen built several castles in the region, with the ancestral castle presumably located east of the choir of St. Michael and Graneck Castle serving as a central complex. Hohenentringen Castle was built on the mountain in the 12th century, likely due to the insecure conditions in the valley. After the extinction of the Lords of Entringen around 1300, the castle passed into the possession of the Ehinger, Hailfinger, and Gültlinger families. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the complex underwent renovations. An episode from 1417 recounts five related families, who, with their children, walked to the church. Georg von Ehingen, born at Hohenentringen in 1428, was a knight who undertook travels and fought in royal service.
