Kalteneck Castle is a moated castle on the eastern edge of Schwenningen in the Swabian district of Dillingen an der Donau. It is on an island in the middle of a spring pond.

History+

The first documented mention of the name Kaltenegk dates to 1425. The moated castle was built around 1570 under the patronage of Knight Kaspar Schenk zum Schenkenstein, who at that time held local rule over Bissingen. The building's foundation rests on oak piles driven into the gravel bed of the pond. The castle changed hands multiple times, including Georg Wilhelm von Gundelsheim and Johann Zöschlin. These owners carried out alterations that changed the original Renaissance appearance.
