Town Fortification Görlitz-Kaisertrutz

In 1427, a fortification was built on the site of older wooden buildings, serving as part of the Budissin or Reichenbach Gate. Around 1490, the large Reichenbach Rondell was constructed as an outwork bastion of the double city wall to protect the Via Regia trade route from the west. This rondell was given the name Kaisertrutz during the Thirty Years' War, specifically in 1641, after Swedish occupiers withstood a multi-week siege by imperial and Saxon troops there. In 1848, it was converted into the main guardhouse for the Prussian garrison, with connecting walls to the Reichenbach Tower and the city wall being demolished.
