Town Fortification Nürnberg-Färbertor

Already during the time of the penultimate city wall, a crossing over the then city moat existed near the later Färbertor. In 1540, a privately financed bridge over the last city moat was built, also named Färbersbrücklein. Given the growth of Nuremberg's southern suburbs at the beginning of the 19th century, the Neo-Gothic Färbertor was erected in 1848, designed by Bernhard Solger. It was named after Färberstraße. However, by 1891, the gate had to make way for increasing traffic and was demolished, with the moat at this point filled in. During World War II, a bunker replaced the old tower “Rotes H”.
